Ready your plungers—the Rabbids are now on Reddit.
Ubisoft’s Rabbids are quirky white alien rabbit creatures that have spawned numerous games since the mid-2000s and even a couple Mario crossover games with Nintendo. Now, Redditors can claim free Rabbids-themed Non-Fungible Token (NFT) avatars for their profiles on the social forum site.
Each Polygon Non-Fungible Token (NFT) or “digital collectible” features a Rabbid in numerous outfits and poses, from a grumpy knight with a plunger to a smiling unicorn rabbit with a golden plunger (the plunger was the primary weapon in early Rabbids games).
Why do Rabbid Non-Fungible Token (NFTs) on Reddit matter? Well, Reddit users went wild for the online discussion platform’s “Snoo” Non-Fungible Token (NFT) avatars when they launched in July 2022, and have since become one of the most prominent brand Non-Fungible Token (NFT) launches to date. At the moment of writing, all of the “Plunger Rabbid” and “Unicorn Rabbid” avatars have already been claimed and are now “sold out,” per Reddit’s website.
Motivated by Reddit’s humanoid alien mascot, the Snoo Non-Fungible Token (NFTs) have amassed a market capitalization of over $330 million, reports by a Dune dashboard. With Snoo, Reddit has released over 13.5 Million Polygon Non-Fungible Token (NFTs) so far across greater than 9.7 Million unique wallets—and most of those were freebies given away to Reddit users. Reddit’s Non-Fungible Token (NFTs) have likewise seen over $32.6 Million in total secondary sales volume across nearly 300,000 transactions.
Both Reddit and Ubisoft are continuing to make strategic pushes toward digital ownership via Non-Fungible Token (NFTs). Although while Ubisoft faced backlash for its early iterations— in particular, Tezos Non-Fungible Token (NFTs) in the PC version of Tom Clancy’s Ghost Recon Breakpoint—its CEO stated the studio is “still in research mode” in the case of NFTs.
On the other hand, Ubisoft’s recent Assassin’s Creed “Smart Collectibles” launch with Integral Reality Labs (IRL) is another indication that the studio is far from throwing in the towel on crypto.
And Ubisoft has a history of bringing Rabbids into the blockchain tech world. Back in 2020, it launched a cryptocurrency crypto token game with the funny bunnies for the charity Unicef. And the Rabbids were the 1st Ubisoft game characters to get the Non-Fungible Token (NFT) treatment in the Ethereum (ETH) metaverse network game, The Sandbox.
Now, Redditors can swap out their Snoo for a Rabbid—just watch out for those pesky plungers!
