Crypto Lending Protocol Aave Rebounds with Market Reset
Experience a resurgence in Aave’s performance as the crypto market resets. AAVE, the platform’s native token, surged by almost 20% in the last 24 hours, riding the wave of a market that has seen a more than 5% increase since yesterday.
Unlocking $200 Million Market Size on Aave
Recently, Lido Finance, a crypto staking platform, integrated the Lido V3 market instance on the Aave platform. This integration is specially designed for Aave, catering to Lido’s staked Ethereum (stETH) and wrapped staked Ethereum (wstETH). It aims to enhance user experience in lending and borrowing stETH and wstETH, optimizing profitability for Aave users.
The Lido V3 market on “@aave” has hit a market size of over $200 million within 48 hours
The 2nd quarter unveiled vulnerabilities within the lending sector of decentralized finance (DeFi). CoinGecko’s 2nd Quarter analysis shows that over $31.87 billion in Total Value Locked (TVL) is allocated to lending in the DeFi space. However, key DeFi functions like staking, lending, and cross-chain bridges suffered a substantial decrease in TVL, dropping by over $8 billion.
Funds that exited these sectors flowed into restaking on other platforms or basis trading protocols, which recorded a remarkable 154% surge in TVL in Q2.
This decline in lending activity also impacted the assets on the platform. Blockanalitica data indicates that a majority of the wallets holding collateral on Aave fall within the medium to high-risk categories.
If the market undergoes a 25% decline, most wallets would be at a loss, leading to liquidation. This highlights the risky nature of lending in DeFi, especially amidst the ongoing market volatility.
A Potential Short Squeeze?
AAVE is currently trading in the $93 to $102 range. While this marks a considerable drop from its June levels, it establishes a strong support base for a potential breakout in the future.
However, given its independent movement from the broader market, the current uptrend in AAVE could be a short squeeze – a sudden price surge before a sharp decline.
Given the current market conditions characterized by volatility, AAVE may struggle to reclaim its June prices, increasing the likelihood of further downtrends.
