Optimism’s Rapidly Growing User Base
The popular Ethereum layer-two scaling solution, Optimism, has seen a surge in its user base this year. Recent data from Intotheblock reveals that the network now has over 5.9 million addresses with a balance, a remarkable 391% increase since January.
Spikes in User Activity
By December 22nd, the total number of addresses on the Optimism Layer 2 network reached approximately 84.38 million. While the address count had been steadily rising, significant growth was observed only since mid-September. In the last three months alone, the figure has skyrocketed by more than 843%.
This significant increase can be attributed to Optimism’s successful third airdrop on September 18th. The event involved distributing 19,411,313 OP tokens (worth over $26 million) to 31,870 unique addresses as part of the protocol’s community incentivization and governance plan.
Positive Outlook for Optimism’s Future
Optimism’s rapid growth and increasing user activity indicate a positive outlook for the platform. Additionally, the upcoming Proto-dank sharding upgrade scheduled for the first half of 2024 holds great importance for improving Ethereum’s scalability and efficiency, particularly benefiting Layer 2 networks like Arbitrum and Optimism.
