Popular Web3 Gaming Platform PlayDapp Falls Victim to Cyber Attack
PlayDapp, a widely used gaming platform, has recently experienced a cyber attack resulting in an estimated loss of $31 million worth of assets. The attack was initially discovered by the security platform Cyvers Alerts before being officially confirmed by PlayDapp. Following the incident, PlayDapp has implemented various security measures to protect its users’ assets and recover the stolen funds.
Hacker Exploits Compromised PlayDapp Deployer Address
Cyvers Alert reported suspicious transactions on PlayDapp, revealing that a foreign entity had compromised the network’s deployer address and added themselves as an authorized minter on the platform. Taking advantage of this access, the hacker minted 200 million units of PlayDapp’s native PLA token, equivalent to $31 million. The stolen assets were then distributed to multiple addresses, including a deposit of $5.9 million worth of PLA on the Gate.io exchange.
PlayDapp Responds with Immediate Action
Shortly after Cyvers Alert’s warning, PlayDapp confirmed the attack in an official statement and took immediate action to contain the situation. The gaming platform notified partner exchanges and collaborated with them to suspend trading and address the unauthorized tokens. PlayDapp also transferred all locked and unlocked PLA tokens to a new wallet for enhanced security.
PlayDapp Engages Hacker and Threatens Legal Action
In an effort to recover the stolen assets, PlayDapp sent an on-chain message to the hacker offering a reward for their prompt return. If the hacker refuses this offer, PlayDapp plans to involve law enforcement agencies such as the FBI. Additionally, PlayDapp intends to establish a public bounty for the hacker and enlist the services of an anonymous blockchain security firm.
