Jarryd Hayne, a former NRL superstar, has reportedly lost $780,000 in a Bitcoin scam. Hayne, who is currently serving a prison sentence for allegedly raping a woman, was tricked by a fellow inmate. The scammer, Ishan Seenar Sappideen, is in jail for swindling $4.6 million in a Ponzi scheme. Sappideen met Hayne in the prison and promised him and other inmates a significant return on investment in Bitcoin. Six prisoners, including Hayne, transferred over $2 million to accounts controlled by Sappideen. The funds were sent by people outside the jail due to the lack of online access. The whereabouts of Hayne’s funds are unknown. Australian law enforcement transferred Sappideen to another correctional facility following the allegations. Hayne, a world rugby champion, was charged with sexual assault in 2019 and recently found guilty.
