Kenyan Government Suspends Worldcoin’s Activities

The Kenyan government has suspended the activities of crypto project Worldcoin due to concerns over privacy and security. Just 10 days after its official launch, Worldcoin has been suspended in Kenya, one of the few countries where its iris-scanning device Orb was available. Kenya was one of the first countries to open registration for World ID and had a high number of sign-ups. However, the government decided to suspend all Worldcoin activities, stating that relevant agencies need to certify the absence of risks to the general public. Worldcoin officials have not yet commented on the suspension.

Worldcoin Continues to Face Backlash

After its launch, Worldcoin has faced criticism and scrutiny from various countries, especially in Europe. France and the UK have reported that their privacy watchdogs are investigating the project to verify the security of the data it collects. Ethereum co-founder Vitalik Buterin has also published an essay highlighting four major risks with Worldcoin’s system, including privacy concerns and accessibility of the Orb device.

WLD Token Gains 7% in the Last 24 Hours

Despite the suspension of activities, the Worldcoin token (WLD) has shown growth in the past week, gaining about 7% in the last 24 hours. However, it still struggles to return to its initial price of $3.1, currently hovering at $2.44.

Hot Take

The suspension of Worldcoin by the Kenyan government raises serious concerns about the project’s privacy and security measures. With scrutiny from other countries and criticism from experts, Worldcoin is facing significant challenges in gaining trust and ensuring the protection of user data. The growth of the WLD token may not be sustainable if these issues are not adequately addressed.
