El Salvador Launches Bitcoin Education Program in Schools
The Ministry of Education of El Salvador has partnered with the nonprofit organization Mi Primer Bitcoin (MPB) to pilot a program that introduces Bitcoin courses into school curriculums. MPB will train 150 teachers from 75 public schools, who will then teach their students about the benefits and usage of Bitcoin. If successful, the program could be expanded to include all schools in the country by 2024. MPB is also in talks with the governments of two other Latin American countries to bring Bitcoin education to their schools as well.
Bitso Partners with Despegar to Offer Crypto Cashout Program
Mexico-based cryptocurrency exchange Bitso has partnered with online travel agency Despegar to launch a point-to-crypto cashout program in Argentina. Through the Despegar Passport program, users can exchange their loyalty points for Bitcoin or Ethereum. Initially, users will be able to exchange between 100 and 5000 reward points per day. The collaboration aims to promote the adoption of cryptocurrencies in Latin America.
Argentina and Uruguay Expand Local Currency Payment System
The central banks of Argentina and Uruguay have agreed to enhance the SML, a cross-border payment system focused on local currencies. The system will now allow payments for services, in addition to other transactions. Companies will be able to issue invoices in both local currencies, reducing transaction costs and eliminating the need for a third-party currency. The revamped system aims to facilitate trade between the two countries.
