Optimism Announces Third Airdrop
Optimism, the Ethereum Layer 2 network, has announced its third airdrop to reward loyal users who have delegated their OP tokens for governance participation. This airdrop will distribute 19 million OP tokens to 31,000 unique addresses on the network. Eligible users began receiving their tokens on September 18. To qualify for the airdrop, users must have delegated their OP tokens between January 20 and July 20. Those who delegated their tokens to active voters receive a 2x multiplier. The team assured the community that more airdrops are coming, as 19% of the total OP token supply is dedicated to this purpose.
Impact on OP Price
What’s next?
Eligible addresses are in the process of receiving OP for Airdrop #3.
OP price will drop drastically. This is already being manifested in Optimism’s performance in the last day which is already moving into the red with 0.24% losses. As more users receive and access their tokens, the selling pressure could climb rapidly.
However, given that users are being rewarded for holding and delegating their tokens, it could spark an urge to hold onto the OP tokens among those who receive them in an effort to qualify for future airdrops. In such a case, the OP price will hold firmly and shake off any bear pressure.
OP is already seeing increased interest which has translated to a 40% increase in its daily trading volume, according to data from CoinMarketCap. Its price is also holding tentatively at $1.40 as investors wait for the market to react.
Hot Take: Optimism’s Airdrop Strategy Boosts User Engagement and Price Stability
Optimism’s third airdrop is aimed at rewarding loyal users and encouraging token holding for future airdrops. While the distribution of OP tokens may increase selling pressure in the short term, the incentive to qualify for future airdrops could lead to increased token holding, stabilizing the price. This strategy has already sparked interest, resulting in a 40% increase in daily trading volume. As investors eagerly await market reactions, Optimism’s performance and price remain tentative but promising. The airdrop initiative showcases Optimism’s commitment to user engagement and long-term value creation.
