Eclipse Introduces New L2 Architecture to Enhance Ethereum Scaling
Eclipse recently announced a new L2 architecture that combines the speed and scalability of Solana with the Ethereum network. This architecture aims to revolutionize scaling by addressing Ethereum settlement, execution using the Solana Virtual Machine (SVM), data availability through Celestia, and proving using RISC Zero.
Bringing SVM Experience to EVM
The new L2 architecture utilizes the Solana Execution environment, enabling parallel execution and implementing local fee markets. This results in lower fees for conflict-free transactions, reducing chain-wide fee hikes caused by high-demand applications. Neon EVM powers Eclipse’s mainnet to bring full EVM compatibility.

Eclipse plans to use the Solang compiler to compile Solidity smart contracts into SVM bytecode. Solana’s state growth limitations are also addressed, as it does not require constant Merkle Tree updates for each state update.
The settlement of the Eclipse Mainnet will occur on Ethereum, ensuring the security properties of Ethereum and supporting assets like DeFi and NFTs.
Data Availability and Proving
Celestia will provide data availability in this new system, offering higher TPS compared to Ethereum’s current bandwidth limitations. The new mainnet also introduces Proving, similar to Anatoly’s SVM fraud-proof SIMD, which eliminates the need for a Merkle tree in the SVM. The executor will confirm transaction commitments on Ethereum by posting a list of inputs and outputs.
