The raid on Wednesday marked the first time Venezuelan authorities targeted the feared Tren de Aragua, a criminal group involved in drug and human trafficking, extortion, and other illicit activities in Venezuela and neighboring countries.

Bitcoin mining involves minting new coins and securing the Bitcoin blockchain. Miners consume significant amounts of electricity but are rewarded with new cryptocurrency.
