Polygon Labs Proposes Streamlining Celo’s Transition to Ethereum Layer 2 via CDK

Polygon Labs Suggests Using CDK for Celo’s Ethereum Layer-2 Migration

Polygon Labs has proposed that the Celo blockchain community consider utilizing its Chain Development Kit (CDK) to simplify the planned layer-2 migration on the Ethereum network. This comes after cLabs, the primary development team behind Celo, revealed their alternative strategy to transition their layer-1 into an Ethereum-compatible layer-2 solution using Optimism’s OP Stack.

Moving to Ethereum Layer-2 with Polygon CDK

Sandeep Nailwal, co-founder of Polygon Labs, presented a proposal recommending that the Celo community implement Polygon’s Chain Development Kit. The CDK is a codebase that allows developers to build customized layer-2 chains using zero-knowledge (ZK) technology.

The proposal stated that Polygon Labs is excited to welcome Celo home to Ethereum and help extend Ethereum blockspace. Nailwal explained that this shift would allow Celo to fully leverage the benefits of operating as an Ethereum layer-2 solution while maintaining its initial success.

Polygon CDK

The Polygon CDK toolkit, released in August, enables developers to build blockchain networks using ZK proofs. It offers the ability to interconnect chains through a ZK-based bridge, creating a unified ecosystem known as the “Value Layer.” Several projects, including Canto, Astar, Gnosis, and IDEX, have already announced plans to utilize the CDK for building ZK layer-2 solutions.

Hot Take: Streamlining Celo’s Move to Ethereum Layer 2

Polygon Labs’ proposal to utilize the Chain Development Kit (CDK) for Celo’s migration to Ethereum Layer 2 could simplify and enhance the process. By leveraging the CDK’s capabilities, Celo can fully benefit from operating as an Ethereum layer-2 solution while maintaining its success. This proposal aligns with the growing trend of utilizing ZK technology for building layer-2 solutions. As more projects adopt the CDK, it has the potential to create a unified ecosystem and expand the Ethereum blockspace. This move showcases the continuous innovation and collaboration within the blockchain community.
