Getty Images Launches Generative AI Platform for Commercially Safe Images
Getty Images has unveiled its new generative AI platform, Generative AI by Getty Images, which aims to mitigate the unauthorized use of copyrighted images in training AI models and image generation. The platform is trained exclusively on Getty Images’ vast library of owned and licensed images, resulting in AI-generated images that are “commercially safe.” Unlike other AI-image generators under legal scrutiny, Getty Images’ platform offers uncapped indemnification, allowing users to create visuals without legal concerns.
Generative AI by Getty Images can be accessed via an API and can be custom-fitted and trained over time for brands to use with their own intellectual property (IP). The platform uses NVIDIA’s Picasso, a powerful AI technology for generating new content such as images, text, videos, and music. Getty Images CEO Craig Peters highlighted the platform’s unique features, including its indemnification, commercial cleanliness, and high-quality output.
To prevent illegal deepfakes or the misuse of its platform, Getty Images has blocked prompts that could generate problematic content. The AI tool is trained on a curated and clean database that excludes recognizable public figures or brands’ intellectual property. User-generated images will train the AI models but will not be uploaded to the Getty Images website or licensed by the company.
