Hackers Steal $200 Million from Crypto Firm Mixin in Largest Theft of the Year
In what experts are calling the biggest cryptocurrency theft of the year, hackers have stolen approximately $200 million from crypto firm Mixin. The Hong Kong-based company announced on social media platform X (formerly known as Twitter) that its network’s cloud service provider was attacked, resulting in the loss of some assets.
Mixin, a digital asset transfer network with one million users, has temporarily suspended user withdrawals but assured that transfers are unaffected. The company plans to reopen its services once the vulnerabilities are fixed and will announce a solution for dealing with the lost assets.
The 10th Largest Crypto Hack in History
If the hack is confirmed at $200 million, it would rank as the 10th largest cryptocurrency hack in terms of stolen volume. Blockchain research firm Elliptic reports that it is also the largest hack recorded in 2023 so far. Last year, hackers stole a record-breaking $3.8 billion worth of cryptocurrency.
