The man, identified only as A, was given a one-year prison term for his involvement in “telecommunications-related financial fraud.” He was recruited by an organized voice phishing ring and instructed to buy Bitcoin from a domestic exchange using his own money, which he then had to send to the ring’s crypto wallet. The court determined that the ring was actually a voice phishing outfit using A to launder their funds.
