Pressure Mounts on Elon Musk to Confront Fake Satoshi Profile

Members of the Cryptocurrency Community Demand Removal of Fake Satoshi Nakamoto Account

The cryptocurrency community is putting pressure on Elon Musk, the owner of the social media platform X, to remove an account impersonating Bitcoin creator Satoshi Nakamoto. Another account using the handle “Bitcoin” has also raised concerns. These profiles violate X’s terms of service, which prohibit misleading and deceptive identities.

Pledditor, a user on X, argued that these fake accounts are equivalent to creating counterfeit accounts for well-known entities like Tesla or Elon Musk. However, it was discovered that the “Nakamoto” profile has been managed by Andy Rowe since 2018. The account recently resurfaced with a post expressing its intention to explore the facets of the Bitcoin white paper.

Musk Urged to Take Action

The crypto community quickly rallied behind Pledditor’s stance and called for immediate action against the misleading profiles. Many members shared past instances where they reported similar accounts but received no response from X’s administrators. Some suggested that X should handle these accounts similarly to how they dealt with the “@internet” handle.

The true identity of Satoshi Nakamoto, the creator of Bitcoin, remains unknown. Various individuals have claimed to be Nakamoto over the years, including Craig Wright who recently won a copyright claim for the Bitcoin white paper in the UK.

Elon Musk Criticizes Biased Reporting

This incident comes after Elon Musk criticized mainstream media for biased reporting. He specifically called out CBS News program “60 Minutes” for their coverage of Sam Bankman-Fried, former CEO of FTX Exchange. Musk highlighted the sensationalistic and biased nature of the reporting.

Hot Take: Cryptocurrency Community Pushes for Removal of Fake Satoshi Nakamoto Account on Social Media Platform

The cryptocurrency community is demanding the removal of a fake Satoshi Nakamoto account on the social media platform X. The account, along with another using the handle “Bitcoin,” violates X’s terms of service by impersonating known individuals or organizations. Users argue that these misleading profiles should be treated as counterfeit accounts for entities like Tesla or Elon Musk. While the true identity of Satoshi Nakamoto remains unknown, various individuals have claimed the title over the years. This incident follows Elon Musk’s recent criticism of biased reporting in mainstream media, emphasizing the need for accurate and fair coverage.
