Friend.tech Introduces New Login Method Feature to Address Security Concerns

Friend.tech, the decentralized social network that allows users to buy and sell keys linked to X, has announced a new feature aimed at enhancing security on its platform. The update comes in response to reports of SIM-swap attacks targeting users.

Addressing User Concerns

Through a social media post, Friend.tech revealed that users can now add or remove login methods directly through the app. To make any changes, users simply need to tap their wallet balance. In response to a user question about Privy’s 2FA passcode feature, the company acknowledged that the current implementation of the feature has caused many users to lock themselves out of their accounts. Friend.tech assured users that Privy is actively working on resolving this issue and will integrate the feature once it is completed.

Rising Incidents of SIM-Swapping

ZachXBT, a blockchain investigator, reported multiple exploits on Oct. 4 involving SIM-swapping attacks. Users shared that their accounts were compromised after bad actors gained control of their mobile numbers through SIM swapping. The incidents resulted in scammers stealing approximately $385,000 worth of Ether between Oct. 4 and 5.

Hot Take: Strengthening Security Measures in Response to Growing Threats

The introduction of the new login method feature by Friend.tech demonstrates the platform’s commitment to addressing security concerns and enhancing user experience. By allowing users to easily manage their login methods, Friend.tech aims to mitigate the risks associated with SIM-swapping attacks. However, recent incidents highlight the growing threat posed by such attacks and emphasize the need for continuous vigilance and proactive measures in protecting crypto assets.
