How Soon The AMM Implementation Could Happen
After the announcement that the AMM functionality would be proposed as an amendment under the latest rippled version, Ripple’s Chief Technology Officer (CTO) David Schwartz has provided some answers to the community regarding how soon it could be implemented if passed.
In response to a tweet asking about the timeline for the AMM going live on the XRP Ledger (XRPL) after voting, Schwartz stated that it should be enabled on the XRPL “in about two weeks” if most validators vote yes to the proposal.
The voting process began on September 7, but so far, no validator has voted yes to the proposal. According to Schwartz, 80% of validators need to vote yes for the amendment to pass.
The Role of Validators and Community Support
Schwartz believes that validators shouldn’t vote yes individually. Instead, they should base their decision on whether they believe the community supports the amendment. He emphasizes that the amendment process is not meant to be a governance mechanism but rather a way to coordinate activation and prevent activation if a problem is discovered.
Despite Schwartz defending the feature, there are concerns within the community about how it may undermine blockchain technology and decentralization.
Hot Take: The Future of AMM on XRPL
The implementation of AMM functionality on XRPL is eagerly awaited by many in the XRP community. While David Schwartz’s response gives some clarity on the timeline, it remains uncertain when validators will vote and if there will be enough support for the proposal to pass. The decision ultimately rests with the community, and their support will determine whether this amendment becomes a reality. As discussions continue, it’s important for stakeholders to consider both the benefits and potential drawbacks of introducing AMM on XRPL. Only time will tell how this proposal will shape the future of XRP and its ecosystem.
