In a concerning development, the official website of the Web3 project Ordswap has been compromised, forcing its shutdown. While social media phishing attacks are common, this incident involves bad actors taking control of the project’s domain.
Ordswap Shifts Blame onto Netlify
On October 9, the Ordswap team announced on Twitter that they had lost control of their official domain. They warned users not to connect to the Ordswap domain as they were no longer in control. Some users reported that after connecting their MetaMask wallet, attackers attempted to drain their funds.
Ordswap placed blame on website development and deployment platform Netlify for the issue. However, they also stated that they were working to resolve it.
Ordswap Takes Down Website, Ensures Minimal Compromises
Ordswap informed users that they had taken down the compromised website and assured them that there were no compromises except for one user who connected their MetaMask wallet. They planned to publish the source code on GitHub for affected MetaMask users to retrieve their keys.
Currently, attempting to access the Ordswap website redirects users to relayx.io, a competitor. Google displays a warning message indicating a potential security risk when visiting the site.
