Surge in Fortnite Reddit Reward Token BRICK by 131%—What’s the Reason?

BRICK Token Surges 131% in Value

The crypto reward token known as BRICK, which is distributed in Reddit’s subreddit community for the popular video game Fortnite, experienced a significant increase in value on Wednesday. According to CoinGecko data, BRICK started the day at just under $0.075 and peaked at around $0.173 by the end of the day, more than doubling in price within 24 hours. Although the cause of this sudden surge is unclear, it is likely that limited liquidity led to substantial price shifts as users bought and sold the tokens.

The Role of Limited Liquidity

With a market cap of only $15.6 million and a 24-hour trading volume of just over $1 million, BRICK has relatively low liquidity. Most of its trading volume occurs on Kraken. CoinGecko estimates that a user buying $165 worth of BRICK could increase the price by 2%, while a user selling $199 worth of the token could cause a 2% price drop. The token’s trading volume has typically been below $100,000 over the past month.

Origin and Use of BRICK Tokens

BRICK was initially launched in 2020 as part of Reddit’s trial run to reward its most active users with crypto tokens called “Community Points.” These tokens were introduced in the Fortnite community and another subreddit called r/cryptocurrency. Initially, they were difficult to transact due to being on an Ethereum testnet, but traders eventually found ways to exchange them for other tokens or cash out.

Migrating to Arbitrum Nova

In 2022, Reddit announced that both BRICK and MOON tokens (used in the r/cryptocurrency subreddit) would migrate to Arbitrum Nova, an Ethereum scaling network. This migration made the tokens more accessible and potentially usable in other applications. However, as of now, Reddit has not expanded the Community Points program to other communities.

Price Movements of MOON Tokens

Following the surge in BRICK’s price, Reddit’s MOON tokens also experienced a smaller increase in value and trading momentum on Wednesday. According to CoinGecko, MOON is up 10% in the past 24 hours, reaching a price of $0.217 with a trading volume of approximately $610,000.

Hot Take: BRICK and MOON Tokens Continue to Reach All-Time Highs

The recent surge in BRICK’s value demonstrates the influence of limited liquidity on token prices. While the exact cause of this surge remains unclear, it highlights the potential for significant price shifts in smaller market cap tokens. Additionally, the migration of BRICK and MOON tokens to Arbitrum Nova has made them more accessible and could lead to increased adoption beyond Reddit’s current communities. As these tokens continue to set all-time high prices, their popularity and trading momentum show no signs of slowing down.
