A Senator from Arkansas Seeks Answers on Unwanted Crypto Mines
A senator from the US state of Arkansas is demanding answers from the governor’s office in response to the growing outcry over unwanted cryptocurrency mines in small towns across the state. Residents of Mountain Pine have complained about the “freaking loud” noise coming from a new crypto-mining facility in Garland County. Gary Muston, a resident living near the facility, described the noise as high-pitched fans that can be heard up to four or five miles away.
Lawmaker Requests Records on Crypto Mines
In response to the residents’ complaints, Arkansas lawmaker Sen. Bryan King has requested records related to crypto mines in the area from a governor’s office staffer. King is seeking a response to the outcries and wants more information on crypto mining activities in the locality.
Arkansas Law Welcomes Crypto-Mining Businesses
A law passed earlier this year, known as Act 851, allows crypto mining activities to operate in Arkansas as long as they comply with state laws regarding business guidelines, tax policies, operational safety, and employment laws. The law largely prevents local governments from regulating crypto mines.
King’s Request to Repeal Act 851 Denied
Last month, Sen. Bryan King requested the repeal of Act 851 during a special session but was turned down. He criticized the government for denying his request and not inviting him to a meeting with other county officials discussing crypto mining matters in the state.
“He seems to be the one that needs to be answering questions,” said King.
The September special session did not address the issue of crypto mining in the state, leading King to question why there is opposition to repealing Act 851 and giving cities and counties the right to decide on crypto mining regulations.

In response to Sen. King’s questions, the governor’s communication director stated that the office prioritizes the safety and security of Arkansans. They emphasized that multiple laws have been enacted to protect the state from nefarious foreign influence.
