Exploring Metaverse Scalability: MultiversX CEO Reveals Insights on Spatial Computing

The Metaverse: Meta vs Apple

The metaverse has garnered significant interest from the crypto community and venture capital firms, with Meta and Apple both entering the space. However, these tech giants have taken different approaches to the metaverse.

Meta has focused on virtual reality (VR) and recently released smart glasses in collaboration with Ray-Ban. On the other hand, Apple has embraced augmented reality (AR) and launched its own AR glasses earlier this year.

According to Vlad Mincu, CEO of MultiversX, Meta’s glasses are limited to a specific virtual world, while the concept of the metaverse is about an interactive experience within that world. He believes that Apple’s spatial computing approach is a paradigm shift that introduces a new way of viewing interfaces as spatial computing devices.

“So this is why spatial computing, it seems like it’s the same thing, which is a different world.”

The Concept of Spatial Computing

Spatial computing involves capturing, processing, and interacting with 3-dimensional data. It encompasses various technologies such as augmented reality, virtual reality, artificial intelligence, and more. It enables human-machine interaction by manipulating real objects and spaces.

MultiversX’s Technical Upgrades

MultiversX is set to undergo technical upgrades on Oct. 19 to align with the spatial computing approach and improve scalability. These upgrades will bring key features such as early block proposals, parallel node processing, consensus signature checks, and dynamic gas cost improvements.

The upgrades aim to increase transactional throughput by seven times, providing faster confirmation and shorter finality. Additionally, on-chain governance, an enhanced virtual machine, and an improved relayed transaction model will be introduced. This model allows tokens operating on the network to cover gas costs.

Hot Take: The Metaverse Takes Shape with Divergent Paths

The metaverse has become a focal point for tech giants like Meta and Apple, each pursuing their own approach. While Meta focuses on virtual reality with its smart glasses, Apple takes on augmented reality with its spatial computing devices. These contrasting strategies highlight the diverse possibilities within the metaverse concept.

As MultiversX prepares for technical upgrades to align with the spatial computing approach, it aims to enhance scalability and introduce new features. This progress signifies the ongoing evolution of the metaverse and its potential to revolutionize human-machine interaction.
