The Rebranding of Opside to Lumoz
The popular Rollups-as-a-Service (RaaS) provider, Opside, has recently announced its rebranding to “Lumoz.” This decision was made to reflect the project’s expansion and avoid any confusion regarding its purpose. Originally, Opside was a RaaS platform that offered various services for developers to build and deploy specialized Rollup networks for decentralized applications. Rollups are a popular scalability solution that enables faster and cheaper transactions while maintaining blockchain security. Lumoz made this announcement earlier in the month, stating that the rebranding was appropriate due to the project’s rapid growth over the past year.
A More Appropriate Name
Lumoz explained in a blog post that many users were confused by the name Opside, assuming it was focused on “optimistic rollups,” which are a different type of scaling solution. Additionally, the name “Opside” no longer accurately represented the project’s expanded scope, which now includes ZK-Rollup Launchbase, ZKP Two-step Algorithm, NCRC protocol, and other important user features. As a result, Lumoz decided to change its name to better align with its goals and objectives.
The new name, Lumoz, is derived from the Latin word for light, “Lumos,” and inspired by the world of Harry Potter. In the series, a Lumos spell creates light at the tip of a magic wand. The team felt that this term accurately described their project and replaced the “S” with a “Z” to associate themselves with zero-knowledge technology.
Looking Ahead
Moving forward, Lumoz remains committed to driving adoption of ZK-Rollup technology by expanding its ZK-RaaS platform. The team has ambitious plans for the future, including expanding support for L1 blockchains. Currently, Lumoz supports zkEVMs such as Polygon zkEVM and zkSync, but aims to add Scroll, StarkNet, and additional chains to its platform by the end of the fourth quarter.
Lumoz also plans to enhance the recently launched ZK-Rollup Launchbase by adding more features and functionality to simplify the deployment of zkEVM application chains. Additionally, the project aims to expand its ecosystem, which currently consists of nearly 100 projects across various sectors such as DeFi, NFTs, GameFi, SocialFi, and blockchain tools.
Another important focus for Lumoz is building out its miner ecosystem and reducing the barrier to entry for participants. As ZK-Rollup technology grows, there will be an increased demand for computing power. Lumoz incentivizes miners through its ZK-PoW mechanism but requires more contributors. To attract more users to become miners, Lumoz plans to lower the CPU and GPU requirements by adjusting its underlying ZK-PoW algorithm.
Lastly, Lumoz intends to actively promote ZK-Rollup technology through industry summits, events, hackathons, and other activities that facilitate knowledge dissemination.
