Holders of CryptoPunk NFTs Can Obtain Physical Prints of Their Art
In an announcement on October 26, it was revealed that holders of CryptoPunk non-fungible tokens (NFTs) have the opportunity to acquire physical prints of their digital art items. This offer comes as a result of a partnership between online art store Avante Art and Yuga Labs, the brand owner of CryptoPunks. The sale will only last for 48 hours, beginning on October 26 at 3:00 p.m. UTC and ending on October 28 at 3:00 p.m. UTC.
Two Versions of Physical Collections Available
Avante Art is offering two different versions of the physical CryptoPunks collection. The first is called “Punk-On-Chain,” which allows each punk owner to commission a print copy for each digital punk they own. However, ownership must be proven in order to commission the print copy. Therefore, individuals who do not own the on-chain version cannot purchase its print version.
The second collection is called “10,000 On-Chain,” which is a print collection of all 10,000 CryptoPunks that is open to anyone. Collectors can buy the print version of a 10,000 On-Chain punk even if they don’t own the original on-chain version.
Distinguishing Characteristics
There are distinct characteristics that differentiate the two versions of each printed punk. The 10,000 On-Chain pieces are Archival pigment prints with silkscreen varnish seal, while the Punks-On-Chain pieces are UV pigment prints with white underpins. Both versions include a Yuga Labs holographic sticker to verify their authenticity.
Certificate of Authenticity
The Punks-On-Chain items have a QR code on the back of the print, which leads to a blockchain-based digital Certificate of Authenticity (CoA). On the other hand, the 10,000 On-Chain pieces come with a physical CoA that contains a QR code leading to the digital CoA, but this QR code is not present on the print itself.
About CryptoPunks
CryptoPunks is an art collection that was one of the first to be distributed through blockchain technology. Developed by Larva Labs studio and released in June 2017, these pieces were initially available for free to any Ethereum network user who wanted to mint them. As of now, the lowest-priced CryptoPunks sell for approximately $78,000, and the entire collection has a market cap of over $782 million according to data from Coingecko. In March 2022, Larva Labs sold the copyrights for CryptoPunks to Yuga Labs.
Hot Take: Bringing Physicality to Digital Art
The partnership between Avante Art and Yuga Labs demonstrates an interesting intersection between the digital and physical art worlds. By offering physical prints of CryptoPunk NFTs, collectors can enjoy their artwork in both digital and tangible forms. This initiative provides an opportunity for NFT holders to showcase their ownership in a traditional art medium while still benefiting from the uniqueness and authenticity associated with blockchain technology. It also highlights the growing recognition and value of NFTs as they continue to bridge the gap between virtual and real-world art experiences.
