Craig Wright Claims Victory in U.S. Appeals Court
Craig Wright, who asserts himself as the creator of Bitcoin, has recently emerged triumphant in a major court case at the U.S. Appeals Court. The legal battle involved Bitcoin that Wright and the late David Kleiman mined together more than a decade ago. The court ruled that Wright and Kleiman did not have a legal partnership.
The Kleiman family, now represented by David’s brother Ira, failed to challenge the original court’s decision and struggled to provide evidence that Wright was obstructing the legal process. As a result, the charges against Wright were dismissed.
This ruling upholds the verdict reached by a Florida jury in 2021, which determined whether the Kleiman family was entitled to half of the Bitcoin fortune, valued at up to $36 billion as per Wright’s claim for punitive damages.
Not Related to Ongoing Dispute
It is important to note that this appeal does not pertain to the ongoing dispute where Wright was ordered to pay $100 million to a company established by Kleiman.
Additional Legal Battles
Wright is also engaged in a lawsuit against cryptocurrency developers in the U.K. for their failure to include a Bitcoin backdoor for his company, Tulip Trading. He believes this backdoor would enable him to regain access to lost crypto funds.
In 2022, a Norwegian judge deemed it permissible to label Wright as a “fraud” and “scammer” for claiming to be Satoshi Nakamoto, the pseudonymous creator of Bitcoin. Wright is currently in the process of appealing this decision.
Hot Take: Craig Wright’s Controversial Legal Victories
Craig Wright’s recent legal victory in the U.S. Appeals Court has reignited debates within the cryptocurrency community. While the court ruled in his favor regarding his alleged partnership with David Kleiman, controversies surrounding Wright persist.
Many skeptics question Wright’s claim to be the true creator of Bitcoin, and his ongoing legal battles only fuel these doubts. Whether it’s the dispute over substantial monetary settlements or his attempts to force a Bitcoin backdoor, Wright’s actions continue to generate controversy.
The crypto world eagerly awaits the outcomes of his remaining legal battles, as they have the potential to shape the future of both Wright’s reputation and the broader cryptocurrency landscape.
