Avalanche to Retire SnowTrace Explorer
Avalanche, a platform that claims to have solved the blockchain trilemma of scalability, security, and decentralization, is phasing out SnowTrace, a Contract Chain (C-Chain) explorer run by Etherscan. The transition will take place by the end of November, with the current SnowTrace website being rerouted to a new website. The new explorer, developed in-house by the Avalanche team, will offer more capabilities and potentially enhance user experience.
Smooth Transition Assured
Avalanche has assured users that there will be no service disruption during the transition. Only the back end of the explorer will be switched. Users will still be able to explore the entire Avalanche blockchain, including the three chains. This means that users can search the C-Chain and explore all the sub-nets. The aim of transitioning to a new explorer is to remove the limitations of SnowTrace and provide a better user experience.
Subnets and Scaling
Avalanche relies on subnets as customized blockchains that cater to specific decentralized applications (dapps). Subnets are autonomous and can have their own rules, tokens, and validator requirements. To launch a subnet, operators must stake AVAX tokens. Each subnet is independent but linked to the mainnet through the Platform Chain (P-Chain) for validator registration and consensus.
Concerns About Notice Period
While Avalanche claims that the transition will be smooth, some developers have expressed concerns about the short one-month notice period. They believe that businesses and developers relying on SnowTrace for on-chain data should have been given more time to prepare for its retirement.
Hot Take: AVAX Price Increase
The price of AVAX has remained steady and has even increased, trading at around October highs and adding approximately 30% from the lows of Q4 2023.
