Russia Launches Massive Drone Attack on Ukraine’s Critical Infrastructure

Russia carried out a significant drone attack in southern and western Ukraine, targeting critical infrastructure, according to the Ukrainian Air Force. The attack involved the launch of approximately four dozen “Shahed” drones from Russia, with 24 of them being shot down by the Ukrainian Air Force. Additionally, a Kh-59 guided air missile was launched from occupied Kherson. Ukrainian officials reported that the drone strikes hit civilian targets in and around Kharkiv, causing damage to civilian infrastructure. Although no injuries were reported, eight residents received medical attention. Video footage and images of a fire in Kharkiv city were shared by Oleh Synehubov, head of the Kharkiv regional state administration.

New Sanctions Imposed by the US Government

As a response to Russia’s invasion of Ukraine, the US government implemented comprehensive sanctions against Moscow. These new measures include nearly 100 sanctions targeting energy production, mining, and defense. The US also introduced measures to address sanctions evasion in countries such as the United Arab Emirates, Turkey, and China. Treasury Secretary Janet Yellen stated that Russia relies on third-party individuals and entities to support its military operations in Ukraine, and those who assist will be held accountable.
