Furakawa labeled reports about the so-called Nintendo Switch 2 as “inaccurate” during an online press conference. He specifically refuted claims that the capabilities of the new hardware were shown to select developers in recent months, dismissing them as “untrue.”
Leaked documents from Activision suggested that Nintendo had showcased its next-generation hardware to the game publisher in late 2022. Additionally, some game studios were given private demos at the Gamescom conference in August 2023 using an enhanced version of the popular game, The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild.
Reports imply that Nintendo is gearing up to launch a Switch successor in 2024, maintaining the hybrid handheld and home console approach but with significantly more power—reportedly along the lines of what the Xbox One and PlayStation 4 could handle.
