Crypto Community Anticipates Bitcoin Halving Event
The crypto community, along with its prominent figures, is shifting its attention to the upcoming Bitcoin halving event, a phenomenon that occurs every four years and reduces the market supply of new Bitcoin (BTC) by half. This upcoming halving event, scheduled for April 2024, will see the Bitcoin mining reward drop from 6.25 BTC per block to 3.125 BTC per block.
Binance CEO Changpeng Zhao recently initiated a countdown for the next halving via a post on X, formerly Twitter, reminding everyone that the event is only 135 days away.

Historical Patterns and Market Dynamics
Historically, the Bitcoin halving has been associated with a bullish trend for the BTC price due to supply and demand dynamics. The reduction in new supply amid growing demand typically propels the BTC price to new highs in the months following the halving.
For instance, the last bull cycle that began with the halving in May 2020 saw the BTC price trading below $10,000 nearly two months before the halving. However, the pre-halving bullish momentum led to BTC’s price surpassing the previous cycle’s all-time high of around $17,000. After the halving, the BTC price entered a parabolic phase, reaching a new all-time high of almost $69,000.
The Different Phases of a BTC Bull Cycle
Renowned trader and analyst Rekt Capital also shared their perspective on the various phases of a BTC bull cycle, emphasizing the pre-halving and post-halving stages. Around 60 days prior to the halving, a pre-halving rally often occurs as investors tend to “Buy the Hype” in anticipation of the event.
However, the euphoric surge before the halving is usually followed by a retrace around the time of the actual event. In 2016, the pre-halving retrace was -38%, while the 2020 pre-halving retrace was -20%.
Following the retrace, there tends to be a multi-month reaccumulation phase characterized by fluctuations in the BTC price, minimal gains, and disillusionment among investors. This phase is often marked by boredom, impatience, and disappointment with the lackluster performance of BTC post-halving.
The accumulation period is eventually succeeded by a parabolic surge, during which Bitcoin breaks out of the reaccumulation phase to achieve new highs with accelerated growth.
