Sam Altman Joins Microsoft AI Research Team
Sam Altman, the former CEO of OpenAI, has joined Microsoft to lead a new advanced AI research team. This was confirmed in a post by Microsoft CEO Satya Nadella.
Other former OpenAI members, including Greg Brockman, will also be part of this new team.
Altman was abruptly fired from OpenAI by the board, with Brockman resigning shortly after. However, Microsoft will stay committed to its partnership with OpenAI. This was shown by their $10 billion investment in the AI company earlier this year.
Satya Nadella said, “We look forward to getting to know Emmet Shear and OAI’s new leadership team and working with them.”
On his part, Altman retweeted Nadella’s X post and said, “The mission continues.”
Sam Altman’s Ouster from OpenAI
OpenAI announced Altman’s removal as CEO in a blog post, saying he was not consistently candid, thus hindering the board’s responsibilities. This led to shock waves in the tech industry, with Brockman announcing his resignation shortly after.
Altman was the public face of OpenAI after the release of ChatGPT. A report claimed the OpenAI board was in talks with Altman to reinstate him as CEO, but Twitch co-founder Emmett Shear was appointed instead.
Worldcoin Price Volatility Spikes On OpenAI Saga
Another project Altman co-founded, Worldcoin, experienced a spike in volatility. The token tanked by around 17% to $1.84 after his ouster from OpenAI but spiked to $2.54 amid news of his possible reinstatement before declining again.
After Altman’s new role at Microsoft was announced, the token is down by over 5% to trade at $2.30 at 06:59 EST.
