Ubisoft Pulls Ads from Twitter

Ubisoft, the publisher of Assassin’s Creed, has decided to stop running ads on Twitter, following the lead of several major tech firms and Hollywood studios. The decision came after concerns about antisemitic content circulating unchecked on the platform. Although Ubisoft hasn’t given an official reason for the halt, the actions of other major corporations may have been a significant factor.

Decrypt reached out to Ubisoft for comment, but they did not immediately respond. Meanwhile, Twitter owner Elon Musk has made controversial statements and aligned himself with controversial figures, such as a post that has been criticized as antisemitic. Media Matters has reported that ads for companies like Apple, IBM, and NBC Universal have appeared alongside extremist content on Twitter.

As a result, many companies have suspended their advertising on the platform, including IBM, whose spokesperson cited a “zero tolerance for hate speech and discrimination” as the reason for their decision. Some advertising executives have even called on Twitter CEO Linda Yaccarino to resign.

Hot Take: Twitter Advertisers Take Action

It’s clear that the actions of major corporations like Ubisoft are sending a message about what they believe is acceptable content on social media platforms. The backlash against Twitter’s handling of hateful and extremist content is growing, and advertisers are taking a stand in response.
