Cyberpunk 2077: Ultimate Edition to be the First Xbox Series X Game on 3 Discs
If you recall, Cyberpunk 2077 had a rocky start, with a botched and buggy launch in 2020. However, the game has made an impressive turnaround, gaining widespread acclaim thanks to a recent update and the Phantom Liberty expansion. This improved version of the game is now being bundled together for new players.
According to a report from IGN, the upcoming Cyberpunk 2077: Ultimate Edition will be released on December 5 and will span three 50GB Blu-ray discs, making it the first Xbox Series X game to have a three-disc set.
The bundle is also coming to PlayStation 5 and PC, but the physical makeup of these versions will differ. The PS5 version will have the base game on a disc and a download code for the expansion, while the PC version is just a download code for the whole bundle.
The difference in how the Phantom Liberty is included in the Ultimate Edition is due to technical requirements specific to each platform, according to a CD Projekt RED representative.
Due to the design of the console or Microsoft’s platform stipulations, the Xbox Series X version of Cyberpunk 2077: Ultimate Edition needs to come on three discs, making it the only physical version of Phantom Liberty, which could make it more appealing to collectors. The Xbox Series X game discs typically hold up to 50GB worth of content, so taking up three discs means it’s sure to provide an absolutely massive experience.
The PlayStation 5 uses discs that can hold as much as 100GB worth of data, and it only has one two-disc game so far—Horizon Forbidden West: Complete Edition. Another double-disc PS5 game is on the horizon, with Square Enix confirming that Final Fantasy VII Rebirth will span two discs when it releases on February 29, 2023.
