Introducing Movement Labs’ New Layer-2 Rollup that Connects Move and Ethereum

Movement Labs Launches M2, a Layer-2 Rollup for Ethereum

Movement Labs, a team focused on improving security and efficiency in blockchains, has announced plans to introduce M2, a layer-2 rollup for Ethereum that will integrate the Move Virtual Machine (Move VM).

This advanced interoperability project aims to provide new capabilities for developers working on Ethereum by utilizing Celestia’s modular data availability infrastructure through Blobstream and the modular stack.

With the Fractal module, Solidity projects can be deployed on M2 without the need to write Move code, as it converts Solidity scripting into opcodes that can be understood by next-generation virtual machines like Move, offering improved performance and security.

The Move VM, originally developed by Meta (formerly Facebook), is a code language optimized for security and efficiency. By implementing it as a rollup on top of Ethereum’s highly decentralized base layer, Movement Labs believes it can create a strong foundation.

The M2 mainnet incorporates Celestia for Data Availability, Snowman for Shared Sequencing, and the Move Virtual Machine for execution, allowing for processing speeds of over 145,000 TPS, exceeding Ethereum’s 15 TPS capacity.

Furthermore, the modular setup streamlines adoption for existing Ethereum projects through solidity script transitions, making it easier for teams to migrate and access Move’s advanced features without extensive rewrites.

Movement Labs co-founder Rushi Manche sees this architectural choice as key to achieving comprehensive interoperability and long-term tool accessibility across web3, envisioning Move becoming a cornerstone for blockchains, much like Linux did for open-source software development.

By prioritizing versatility, scalability, and security, the M2 rollup mainnet reflects Movement Labs’ commitment to accessibility and performance-boosting standardization, propelling Ethereum’s expansion.

Hot Take: M2 Rollup Revolutionizes Ethereum with Move VM Integration

Movement Labs’ launch of the M2 rollup, incorporating the Move Virtual Machine (Move VM), represents a significant leap in Ethereum’s capabilities. By leveraging advanced interoperability and providing enhanced performance and security, the M2 rollup aims to unlock new potential for developers and existing projects on the Ethereum platform. With processing speeds of over 145,000 TPS and a streamlined adoption process for existing Ethereum projects, the M2 rollup is set to revolutionize Ethereum’s scalability and efficiency. This move reflects Movement Labs’ commitment to driving accessibility and standardization in the blockchain space, paving the way for widespread adoption and industry advancement.
