Founder of Cosmos Announces Plans to Fork New Chain
Following a governance vote that didn’t align with his stance, Jae Kwon, the founder of the Cosmos blockchain, has revealed plans to fork a new chain called AtomOne. This comes after the Cosmos community approved a proposal to reduce the maximum inflation rate of ATOM, the network’s native token, from 14% to 10%. Despite voting against it, Kwon’s proposal passed due to the required governance vote.
Pushing for a Split and Detailed Discussion
Kwon is now advocating for a split and is seeking to fork the Cosmos network in order to create the new chain. He addressed the Cosmos community on X (formerly Twitter), emphasizing the need for a detailed discussion on the potential split.
Kwon stressed the importance of clarity in the transition. He proposed integrating ATOM and ATMO/ATOM1, the token of the new chain, in order to prevent a mass sell-off of the original ATOM and encourage community participation.
Forking Cosmoshub4 and Emphasizing Inclusivity
Kwon’s strategy involves forking cosmoshub4 and maintaining the current software while introducing a “more decentralized” approach through independent plan and development teams. He welcomes those who voted against the proposal to join the venture.
Kwon also addressed confusion within the community regarding NO/NWV voters’ power dynamics and highlighted the fundamental principles guiding AtomOne, the new chain.
Embracing Minority Influence and Logic-Based Decision-Making
Speaking further, Kwon emphasized that even a minority can create a superior civilization by self-organizing and making decisions based on sound logic. He dismissed the idea of majority consensus as absolute control and emphasized the importance of individuals and groups forging their paths based on principles and logic.
AtomOne’s Vision and Progress
Kwon declared that those who disagree with AtomOne’s vision are not welcome but reassured the community that AtomOne will not abandon the existing hub. Instead, it will work towards improving and clarifying its role.
