Circle denies financing Hamas and Justin Sun
Crypto finance company Circle has issued a letter refuting allegations that it facilitated the financing of terrorist organizations or provided banking services to Justin Sun, the founder of TRON Foundation. Circle’s Chief Strategy Officer, Dante Disparte, penned the letter in response to claims made by the Campaign for Accountability, which accused Sun and Circle of being involved in crypto terrorism funding. Circle stated that it does not have any accounts with Sun or his affiliated entities and terminated all accounts held by them in February 2023. The US government has not designated Sun or his entities as Specially Designated Nationals.
Crypto’s role in terrorism financing
The alleged involvement of crypto organizations in funding terror groups has been a contentious issue following Hamas’ recent attack on Israel. The Campaign for Accountability urged Senators Brown and Warren to investigate the potential role played by Justin Sun, TRON, and Circle in financing terrorist activities. This scrutiny comes after the Securities and Exchange Commission sued Sun for selling unregistered crypto securities. However, both TRON Foundation and HTX have yet to respond to requests for comment.
Hot Take: Circle refutes claims of illicit financing
Crypto finance company Circle has strongly denied allegations that it facilitated terrorist financing or provided banking services to Justin Sun. In a letter addressing the accusations made by the Campaign for Accountability, Circle emphasized that it does not have any accounts with Sun or his affiliated entities. The company terminated all accounts held by them earlier this year. While concerns over crypto’s potential role in terrorism funding persist, Circle maintains its innocence and asserts that it adheres to regulatory standards. The allegations against Sun and Circle remain unproven, and no official designations have been made against them by the US government.
