Ethereum Development Team Ends Support for Goerli Testnet
The Ethereum development team has announced that they will no longer support the Goerli testnet. This decision comes as the team prepares for the final upgrade, known as Dencun, which will eventually lead to the exit of validators from the network. The Ethereum Foundation is advising users to migrate to other stable testnet environments before the transition takes place. However, the departure of validators from the client and testing teams could pose potential stability challenges for Goerli.
Developers and Stakers’ Next Steps
For developers, the Ethereum Foundation recommends using Sepolia for testing decentralized applications and other Ethereum Virtual Machine functionalities. Stakers and infrastructure providers can explore the Holesky testnet for protocol-level testing, while the Ephemery testnet offers a weekly reset feature for lightweight end-to-end testing of validator setups.
The Future of Ethereum Upgrades
Ethereum’s upcoming upgrades will focus on scalability, with Danksharding being a significant advancement in this area. Danksharding leverages distributed data sampling to enhance scalability and decentralization. The initial phase, Proto-danksharding or EIP-4844, will introduce temporary data blobs to ensure seamless transmission. The full integration of danksharding is expected to be completed by early 2024.
