Famous Blockchain Game Developer Sky Mavis Expands Ecosystem with “Apeiron”
Famous for developing the once wildly popular play-to-earn blockchain video game “Axie Infinity,” Sky Mavis has been trying to promote the use of its Ronin blockchain. In a partnership with Singapore-based game developer Foonie Magus, they have announced the launch of a new video game called “Apeiron” on the Ronin blockchain.
Sky Mavis CEO and co-founder Trung Nguyen stated that the company aims to become the best place to build and grow web3 games. With Foonie Magus’ experience in both web2 and web3 gaming, “Apeiron,” with its strong intellectual property (IP) and similar gameplay style to “Axie Infinity,” is seen as a natural evolution for the existing Ronin community.
Rebuilding Reputation and Expanding Ecosystem
Repairing the reputation of the Ronin blockchain has been a priority for Sky Mavis since last year when half a billion dollars were allegedly stolen from the “Axie Infinity” platform by the North Korean hacking group Lazarus after switching from Ethereum.
This is not Sky Mavis’ first effort to expand the Ronin blockchain’s ecosystem. Earlier this year, they announced four new titles launching on the Ronin network. The company claims that the number of daily active addresses on Ronin has increased by 300% in the last month, although this surge could not be independently verified.
Foonie Magus CEO Frank Cheng praised Ronin for prioritizing gaming and providing dedicated support to select projects. “Apeiron” is described as a card-battler video game and will have a demo available on the Epic Game Store, with a global launch of the mobile version expected in Q1 2024.
