Celestia’s Integration with Polygon CDK Promises Enhanced Data Availability by 2024

The Celestia Network to Integrate with Polygon CDK

The Celestia network has announced its integration with Polygon’s chain development kit (CDK) in early 2024. This integration will allow Polygon-based networks to use Celestia for data availability, offering a more efficient alternative to storing transaction data on Ethereum.

Reducing Transaction Fees by Over 100 Times

By storing compressed transaction data on Celestia instead of Ethereum, the announcement claims that transaction fees could be reduced by more than 100 times. This integration will simplify the process and provide this option within the Polygon CDK software itself.

Polygon CDK Software and Its Users

Polygon CDK software enables developers to create new blockchain networks within the Polygon ecosystem. Currently, it is being utilized by various platforms such as OKX, Astar, Canto, Gnosis Pay, Palm, and IDEX.

Different Types of Polygon-Based Networks

Some Polygon-based networks, like the Polygon zero-knowledge Ethereum Virtual Machine, are “rollups” that store transaction data directly on the Ethereum network. Others, known as “validiums,” store validation proofs on Ethereum while keeping compressed transaction data on a separate network. In addition to Celestia, Avail is another network capable of storing transaction data for validiums.

Hot Take: A Milestone for Web3 Adoption

This integration marks a significant milestone for Web3 adoption. According to Polygon co-founder Sandeep Nailwal, it brings about a broadband moment for Web3 by simplifying the launch of high-throughput ZK-powered Ethereum layer 2 networks. Similar to how high-speed fiber revolutionized Web2 applications, this development is expected to drive blockchain adoption.
