Donald Trump Launches “Mugshot Edition” NFT Collection
Former US president Donald Trump has introduced a new NFT collection called the “Mugshot Edition,” which references his legal troubles. This release has significantly impacted the prices of Trump’s previous NFTs, causing them to rebound from recent lows.
The Mugshot Edition: Unique Offerings
If you purchase 47 or more Trump cards, you have the chance to dine with the former president at his Mar-a-Lago estate. You will also receive a piece of the suit he wore in his mugshot when he was last arrested. The new collection, comprising 100,000 cards priced at $99 each, was launched on Tuesday. Additionally, there are 2024 limited edition physical cards with different rarities that will be sent to those who purchase 47 cards or more in one transaction.
The first 200 people who buy 100 cards using crypto will receive extra rewards, including a one-of-one NFT, two cocktail reception tickets with Trump, and a second physical card featuring parts of the suit and tie, along with two “Commemorative Dinner” cards.
“In this Edition, some cards will even be one-of-ones (the only one in the world), while some others could even be hand-signed by President Donald J. Trump. These rare cards will be randomly awarded.”
This collection references Trump’s booking and photographing at Atlanta’s Fulton County jail following an indictment on felony charges related to his attempts to overturn his 2020 election loss in Georgia. Trump, along with 18 other defendants, faces charges of solicitation of the violation of an oath by a public officer, racketeering, and more.
Impact on Previous NFT Collection
Before the Mugshot Edition announcement, Trump released his initial limited edition NFT collection for $99 each, generating about $4.6 million in less than five hours. However, the recent announcement led to a surge in prices for his previous NFTs. The NFTs had reached a low trading price of 0.1 ETH, but after the announcement, they rebounded to 0.18 ETH, according to OpenSea data.
Despite his previous criticism of crypto and NFTs, Trump entered the NFT market with the launch of Trump Digital Collectible Cards featuring images of himself. He released a second collection in April, which also quickly sold out. Official documents indicate that Trump holds around $2.8 million in a crypto wallet, primarily from NFT sales.
