Avail and StarkWare Collaborate to Enhance Data Availability for Starknet Layer 2
Avail has partnered with StarkWare to improve data availability for validity-powered appchains within the Starknet Layer 2 network. This collaboration will integrate a data availability solution into Starknet app-chains developed using Madara, a customizable sequencer. These app-chains will function as “Layer 3s” in the Starknet ecosystem.
Utilizing Avail for Data Availability in Different Modes
Layer 3 will have the ability to utilize Avail for data availability in various modes, including validium and sovereign rollups. Each mode offers distinct advantages in terms of transaction processing efficiency and finality.
Availability and Testing
This infrastructure will be accessible for Madara chains after the mainnet release, which is scheduled for Q1 2024. Developers can currently begin experimenting with the data availability interface for Madara on the testnet.
The Transformative Tool: Madara
“Madara is not just a sequencer; it’s a transformative tool that allows for the creation of bespoke appchains, providing massive cost reductions, personalized control, and a realm of innovation previously unattainable in blockchain infrastructure,” said Starknet exploration lead Abdelhamid Bakhta.
Layer 3 Scaling
StarkWare’s multi-layer thesis presents Layer 2 blockchains as a scalable solution for Ethereum. Layer 3s offer customization and experimentation at lower costs without the need to build directly on Ethereum’s Layer 1.
In this context, Avail aims to optimize costs and performance for these Layer 3s, which settle transactions on Starknet’s Layer 2 before achieving finality on Ethereum.
The Journey of Avail
Avail started as a modular blockchain project at Polygon Labs in 2020, focusing on scalability. It was later spun off from Polygon and led by co-founder Anurag Arjun. Avail’s team also includes Prabal Banerjee, who joined as a co-founder after leaving Polygon.
Hot Take: Avail and StarkWare Enhance Data Availability for Starknet Layer 2
Avail’s collaboration with StarkWare to enhance data availability for validity-powered appchains within the Starknet Layer 2 network is a significant development. This integration will provide Layer 3s with improved functionality and options for data availability, ultimately optimizing transaction processing efficiency and finality. With Madara as a transformative tool, developers can create bespoke appchains, unlocking new possibilities in blockchain infrastructure. Avail’s focus on optimizing costs and performance aligns with StarkWare’s goal of scalable solutions for Ethereum. This collaboration showcases the commitment to innovation and advancement within the blockchain ecosystem.
