Thunder Terminal Faces Exploit and Hacker’s Demand
Thunder Terminal, a decentralized platform, recently experienced an exploit that resulted in unauthorized access to a small number of wallets. The platform assured its users that their funds are secure, but the hacker claimed otherwise and demanded a ransom.
Exploit, Refund, Resolution
The breach occurred when a third-party service Thunder Terminal was using was compromised. The exploit was quickly detected and contained within nine minutes. No private keys or wallets were compromised, as the attacker used leaked session tokens to execute unauthorized withdrawals. The platform does not store private keys and desktop wallets were unaffected. However, approximately 86 Ethereum and 439 Solana tokens were lost.
Thunder Terminal has promised to refund all lost funds and provide affected users with credits and fee waivers. They have also contacted the FBI, implemented two-factor authentication for withdrawals, and undergone a comprehensive technical audit.
Hacker Counters Thunder Terminal and Demands Ransom
The hacker disputed Thunder Terminal’s security claims and stated that they have all the user data. They demanded 50 ETH in exchange for deleting the data. Some users raised concerns about how the wallets were compromised if the private keys were safe.
Thunder Terminal expressed willingness to negotiate with the hacker for the return of user funds but stated that they will pursue legal action if necessary.
