The First Private American Lander Carries Dogecoin Wallet to the Moon
The world’s first private American lander, Peregrine, embarked on a mission to the Moon with a Dogecoin (DOGE) wallet on board. The Peregrine Mission One, led by space company Astrobotic, launched with a dual crypto load. Alongside the DOGE wallet, it also carried a Bitcoin coin (BTC) and a metal plate engraved with the contents of Bitcoin’s first block.
Astrobotic’s Rocket Project to Send Cargo to the Moon
Astrobotic is conducting the Peregrine Mission One as part of the Commercial Lunar Payload Service program. The mission aims to deliver the first-ever private lander to the Moon. The 61.6-meter Vulcan Centaur rocket from United Launch Alliance successfully launched from Cape Canaveral in Florida. The lander is expected to touch down on the lunar surface and perform various studies on Feb. 23.
DOGE Price Remains Stable Despite Moon Mission
Despite the exciting news, Dogecoin’s price showed minimal reaction, experiencing a 3.69% decline in the past 24 hours. Currently trading at $0.07793 with a market capitalization of $11.1 billion, DOGE maintained stability. Similarly, Bitcoin’s price only dropped by 0.3% in the last day, reaching $43,945 according to CoinMarketCap.
Upcoming DOGE Launch Planned by Geometric Energy
In addition to Astrobotic’s mission, another DOGE launch to the Moon is scheduled soon. Geometric Energy is developing DOGE-1, which will be launched on a SpaceX Falcon 9 rocket. Although initially announced by SpaceX founder Elon Musk in 2021, the launch of DOGE-1 has faced multiple delays. However, it is now set for January 2024.
