Bitmex Makes History by Sending Bitcoin to the Moon

Crypto derivatives exchange Bitmex has made an exciting announcement: it is sending a bitcoin to the Moon. On January 8 at 02:18 am ET, a bitcoin wallet shaped like a coin will be launched into space from Cape Canaveral Space Force Station, Florida.

The Peregrine spacecraft will carry the bitcoin wallet to the Moon, where it will become the first financial asset to touch the lunar surface. After an Earth orbit, the Vulcan rocket will launch the Peregrine-1 on a lunar trajectory. The spacecraft will spend 7 weeks in lunar orbit before reaching its destination in late February.

This historic event will mark the first Western soft lunar landing since NASA’s Apollo 17 mission in 1972 and the first commercially driven Moon mission. The physical bitcoin, weighing 43g and loaded with 1 BTC, will remain on the lunar surface with the Peregrine.

Bitmex’s CEO, Stephan Lutz, sees this as a significant achievement in space exploration and the beginning of a new era. The bitcoin on the Moon serves as a time capsule, encapsulating human innovation and technological advancements for future generations.
