Andre Cronje Highlights Fantom’s Solution to State Bloat Issue
Fantom co-founder Andre Cronje, a prominent figure in the decentralized finance (DeFi) space, has expressed concerns about probabilistic finality in blockchains like Bitcoin and Ethereum. He asserts that Fantom has already resolved the issue of state bloat, which Ethereum developers are currently working to address.
Fantom’s Approach to State Bloat
While Ethereum plans to tackle state bloat through the use of Verkle trees, Cronje claims that any blockchain relying on probabilistic finality or the longest chain rule will not effectively solve this problem. In contrast, Fantom employs the aBFT consensus mechanism, which eliminates the need for the longest chain rule.
Fantom has also introduced Carmen, a new database that utilizes a flat storage method without tree or dictionary structures. This approach significantly reduces the size of the active state and supports real-time pruning. By adopting these technologies, Fantom has reduced its status from approximately 2TB to 60GB.
