Introducing Quantum Cats Collection: Taproot Wizards Unveil Bitcoin Inscriptions

Taproot Wizards Launches Quantum Cats NFT Collection on Bitcoin Blockchain

Tributing the code developed by Satoshi Nakamoto, Taproot Wizards is releasing a new collection of NFTs called Quantum Cats on the Bitcoin blockchain. The collection is named after the OP_CAT Bitcoin Improvement Proposal (BIP), which introduced “covenants” and enables smart contracts and bridges on Bitcoin. The Quantum Cats Ordinals consists of 3,333 cat images created using Evolving Inscriptions. These images will evolve over time alongside the evolution of the OP_CAT proposal process. The collection also includes a special edition called “Genesis Cat” by digital artist FAR, which is being auctioned at Sotheby’s.

Expensive and Data-Intensive Creation Process

The creation of the Quantum Cats collection was costly, amounting to $66,000. It used a technique called Evolving Inscriptions, which involved inscribing multiple versions of the cats ahead of time. This resulted in a large amount of data, with each cat having multiple evolutions. Additionally, the collection used 10MB of encrypted on-chain data, exceeding the capacity of a single Bitcoin block.

Ordinals Inscriptions on the Bitcoin Blockchain

Similar to Ethereum-based NFT art, Ordinals Inscriptions are digital art specifically designed for the Bitcoin blockchain. Over 50 million Ordinal Inscriptions have been minted since its launch last year. These inscriptions can include various forms such as text, images, videos, meme coins, and video games. Solana wallet Phantom recently added support for Bitcoin, Ordinals, and BRC-20 tokens.

Controversy and Criticism Surrounding Ordinals

Bitcoin purists and critics argue that Ordinals clog up the network and are considered “spam.” However, Taproot Wizards co-founder Eric Wall sees Ordinals as a new art form that exists within the Bitcoin blocks themselves. In November, Taproot Wizards raised $7.5 million in funding to further develop their vision for the non-custodial and scalable future of Bitcoin.

Hot Take: Pushing Boundaries with Quantum Cats and OP_CAT

The launch of the Quantum Cats NFT collection by Taproot Wizards on the Bitcoin blockchain demonstrates the evolution of blockchain technology beyond its traditional uses. By incorporating smart contracts and bridges through the OP_CAT proposal, Bitcoin is expanding its capabilities. The expensive creation process and data-intensive nature of the collection highlight the commitment to innovation within the crypto space. Despite criticism, Ordinals Inscriptions provide a unique art form within the Bitcoin network. Taproot Wizards aims to push boundaries and drive Bitcoin towards a non-custodial and scalable future with projects like Quantum Cats and OP_CAT.
