Art Blocks Founder Overcomes Hesitancy to Print Digital Art
Erick “Snowfro” Calderon, founder and CEO of Art Blocks, has always been hesitant about turning his digital art creations into physical prints. He believes that digital art doesn’t always translate well in print form. However, this hesitancy changed when he collaborated with Avant Arte, a marketplace for limited edition physical and on-chain art pieces.
Finding the Right Balance
Calderon was able to find the right balance of textures and tones to accurately translate one of his favorite Squiggles, #8107, into a physical print. Despite initial concerns about the colors not being perfectly represented, Calderon found that adding a layer of ribs to the print helped mask any imperfections and made him comfortable with the printing process.
Proud of the Printed Artwork
Calderon expressed pride in seeing his digital art printed. The limited sales window in December saw 262 print editions sold. This collaboration with Avant Arte allowed Calderon to bring his digital art into the physical realm while maintaining the essence of his original creations.
Hot Take: Embracing the Physical Realm
Erick Calderon’s initial skepticism about printing his digital art highlights the challenges faced by artists who work primarily in the digital realm. However, his collaboration with Avant Arte demonstrates that it is possible to find a balance between the digital and physical worlds. By carefully considering textures and tones, Calderon was able to create a printed version of his artwork that he is proud of. This opens up new opportunities for artists to expand their reach and connect with collectors who prefer tangible art pieces.
