Mercedes-Benz Unveils Updated In-Car Virtual Assistant with NFT Gallery and Emotional AI Voice
German automaker Mercedes-Benz has revealed an upgraded version of its in-car virtual assistant at the 2024 Consumer Electronics Show (CES) in Las Vegas. The MBUX Virtual Assistant, powered by generative AI and the Mercedez-Benz Operating System (MB.OS), now features an NFT gallery and an AI voice assistant with “emotional profiles.” Markus Schäfer, the company’s chief technology officer, explained that the virtual assistant can switch between four different modes: natural, predictive, personal, and empathetic. The MBUX Assistant will learn driver preferences and enhance their driving experience by performing tasks like automatically playing their preferred radio station or adjusting seat massagers and lights. The updated virtual assistant is set to launch in early 2025.

Mercedes-Benz is also revamping its navigation and in-car entertainment systems. The new MBUX Sound Drive, developed by recording artist Will.i.am, creates a music experience that reacts to the way the car is being driven. Additionally, Mercedes-Benz has introduced the MBUX Collectibles app, allowing drivers to showcase their NFT collection on the vehicle’s dashboard. This includes Mercedes-Benz’s own NXT NFTs on the Ethereum blockchain. The company previously made headlines with its NXT Icons NFT collection drop that caused its website to crash. In addition to entertainment features, Mercedes-Benz has also utilized blockchain technology for practical applications such as tracking CO2 emissions in its cobalt supply chain.
