The X Payments License
Elon Musk’s X Payments LLC has obtained the Money Transmitter License from Utah, solidifying its efforts to bring digital banking to the US and beyond. The license, effective as of January 12, allows X Payments to operate in Utah, joining other key states where it has secured similar approvals.
In Utah, X Payments has applied for licensing three times with a high approval rate. Before this current approval, the Utah Department of Financial Institution denied X Payments’ application in 2023. While the firm has not activated its payment gateway yet, expectations are that it will be launched this year.
Elon Musk hinted that X Payments is also pursuing licensing in California and New York, which are typically more challenging regions.
Is Crypto Payments Incoming?
When Elon Musk acquired X, he promised to transform it into an all-in-one app. One anticipated update is the integration of cryptocurrencies into the X Payment platform. Musk is already a supporter of cryptocurrencies and recognizes Bitcoin’s potential in facilitating payments.
The X platform is thriving despite initial backlash. It already has a significant user base as many cryptocurrency transactions occur on the social media outlet.
