Anichess Launches Decentralized Chess Game with Chess.com Partnership
Hong Kong-based Web3 investor, Animoca Brands, has announced the first-phase launch of Anichess, a decentralized chess game developed in partnership with Chess.com. Anichess has also partnered with five-time World Chess Champion Magnus Charlsen.
In the first phase, Anichess features player-versus-environment gameplay, with plans to introduce player-versus-player settings in the second phase later this quarter. The game allows players to solve daily chess puzzles and earn Orbs of Power game assets for in-game utility and rewards.
Yat Siu, co-founder and executive chairman of Animoca Brands, described Anichess as a fusion of traditional strategy and gameplay with spellcasting, a fantasy storyline, and Web3 functionality.
Raising $1.5 Million in Seed Round
Prior to the launch, Anichess raised $1.5 million in its seed round from investors including GameFi Ventures, The Operating Group, Koda Capital, Bing Ventures, 708 Capital, and Asymmetry Capital.
