Is Dogecoin’s Performance in Running ‘Doom’ Superior to Bitcoin?

Dogecoin Runs Doom: A New Milestone for the Meme Coin

Can it run Doom? That’s the question tech enthusiasts have been asking for years as they attempt to play the iconic 1993 demon shooter on various devices. And now, Dogecoin has joined the list of platforms that can run Doom.

The Introduction of Doginals

A contributor to the Dogecoin ecosystem known as Pimax, or “Mini Doge,” has added a playable copy of Doom to the Dogecoin blockchain through its NFT-like protocol called “Doginals.” These Doginals allow users to add any media or content they want to the smallest fractions of Dogecoin, known as “Shibes.”

Doom on Dogecoin: A Playable Version

The playable version of Doom on Dogecoin closely resembles the original 1993 game, complete with body shields and different difficulty levels. Although it takes a bit of time to load, you can play it in a web browser on both Mac and Windows PC.

Advantages Over Bitcoin Ordinals

Pimax highlights that inscribing more data on Dogecoin is cheaper compared to Bitcoin’s Ordinals. While Bitcoin allows a maximum size of 400KB for an Ordinal without a miner, Dogecoin’s Doom is only 4.2 MB. This opens up possibilities for hosting interactive games and applications directly on the Dogecoin blockchain.

The Growing Popularity of Ordinals

Ordinals have gained popularity since their launch in January 2023. Over 56.7 million pieces of data, including images, GIFs, videos, and even games like Doom, have been inscribed on Bitcoin. Similarly, Doginals have seen significant trading volume, with projects like “Doginal Dogs” generating over $220,000 in total volume traded.

Dogecoin’s Evolution Beyond a Meme Coin

The ability to run Doom on Dogecoin showcases that the meme coin is more than just a digital currency. Similar to Bitcoin, Dogecoin is developing a robust selection of on-chain apps and media, including NFT-like assets, its own crypto tokens (DRC-20s), and now retro games like Doom.

A Future Gaming Ecosystem on Dogecoin?

Pimax expresses interest in creating an on-chain game within the Dogecoin ecosystem. While it poses technical challenges, he believes it is achievable and is currently exploring the possibilities.

Hot Take: The Power of Dogecoin’s Blockchain

The inclusion of Doom on the Dogecoin blockchain marks another milestone for the meme coin. It demonstrates the potential for a new gaming ecosystem and highlights the advantages of Dogecoin’s blockchain over Bitcoin’s Ordinals. With more interactive applications and media being hosted directly on Dogecoin, the future looks promising for this cryptocurrency.
