The Extradition of Han Chang-joon
Han Chang-joon, the former CFO of Terraform Labs, a now-defunct crypto firm, has been extradited from Montenegro to South Korea. This follows a decision from the Ministry of Justice in Montenegro. The country’s Ministry of Justice confirmed the extradition on its official X account. Han Chang-joon was arrested in March last year at a Montenegro airport for trying to travel with forged documents. He has completed a four-month prison sentence in Montenegro.
Do Kwon’s Fate Still Undecided
Meanwhile, Do Kwon, co-founder of Terraform Labs, remains in custody in Montenegro as the Ministry considers whether to send him to South Korea or the United States. Do Kwon’s legal defense team has requested a delay in his Securities and Exchange Commission trial so he can appear personally. In December, the appeals court in Montenegro canceled the previously approved extradition of Do Kwon. The SEC charged Terraform Labs and its former CEO last February over the collapse of two tokens, TerraUSD and Luna, which resulted in significant investor losses. South Korean prosecutors have also accused Do Kwon and Terra affiliates of similar charges.
Hot Take: The Extradition Saga Continues
The extradition saga involving Han Chang-joon and Do Kwon continues as Han Chang-joon is returned to South Korea while Do Kwon’s fate is still undecided. Both individuals faced legal trouble after their arrest in Montenegro last year. With Han Chang-joon completing his prison sentence, attention now turns to Do Kwon and whether he will be sent to South Korea or the United States for further legal proceedings. The cancellation of Do Kwon’s previous extradition approval adds another layer of complexity to this ongoing case. Investors and the crypto community will be closely watching to see how this situation unfolds.
